Welcome

  • Welcome to The Sparrow's Nest! My name is Mrs. Wilt. I am a Christian, saved by grace. Aside from being a wife and mommy, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee and hot tea, listening to classical music, gardening, sewing, and working on our 1933 home. So, pour yourself a cuppa and let's chat!

NOTE: This site's comments are moderated by a busy mommy, so if yours doesn't show up right away, have no fear! As soon as Johnathan takes his nap and Christopher settles down with a book I'll get them online- I promise! :o)

Autumn Leaf Suncatchers

Dsc03508_2

Today after lunch the boys and I ventured outside for a walk to collect pretty leaves fallen from the trees in our neighborhood. When we got home, I ironed the leaves between 2 pieces of wax paper and then cut them out. Johnathan and Christopher had fun taping them to the windows in our kitchen. I especially like the way our door to the mudroom looks:

What cheap fun! The sunlight looks beautiful glowing through the leaves, and each of the boys chose one special leaf for his bedroom window. :o)

When my Grandaughter comes for her visit I am going to do that with her. Mary Isabella

What a lovely idea. We'll have to try it at our house next autumn (it's spring here now.)

We did that last year and it was so much fun and so beautiful too. I hated to take them down for the winter, but we ended up making pretty snowflakes for our large front window.

The other thing that putting the leaves on the window is great for (besides how pretty it looks) is tracing the leaves so that you can make leaf templates.

Very neat!

What a fun, easy, delightful craft!

We may have to try those! Very pretty! The leaves haven't changed as much here yet. It's been warm for Ohio. I still have about 40 tomatoes in the garden!

I'm so buying some wax paper today! I can't wait to try this out! Fall is so beautiful here in NC! I am really into the red leaves in my yard at the moment and I can't wait to showcase them!

What a totally cute idea! How long do the leaves last like that? Did they start to rot? Why I am asking is...our Girl Scout group does a service project for Thanksgiving. We decorate boxes that are filled with Thanksgiving dinner for families who can't afford to buy Thanksgiving dinner. I was wondering if we made the leaves now if they would last until after Thanksgiving?

I'm trying this today, actually...I read somewhere that you can peel the two sheets apart and the leaves will be coated with the wax...I'll let you know how that works out...=]
