Welcome

  • Welcome to The Sparrow's Nest! My name is Mrs. Wilt. I am a Christian, saved by grace. Aside from being a wife and mommy, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee and hot tea, listening to classical music, gardening, sewing, and working on our 1933 home. So, pour yourself a cuppa and let's chat!

NOTE: This site's comments are moderated by a busy mommy, so if yours doesn't show up right away, have no fear! As soon as Johnathan takes his nap and Christopher settles down with a book I'll get them online- I promise! :o)

35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Abortedstates34years
If you can, hug your mother today and thank her for choosing life.

The map above has 17 states blacked out. The population of these states is equal to the 50,000,000+ reported “legal” abortions since 1973. Perhaps this visual will help demonstrate the magnitude of the slaughter.

For an excellent post, go to my friend Kim's blog The Chosen Child to read more about Norma McCorvey's ('Jane Roe") conversion to Christianity: the "poster child for abortion that jumped off the poster and into the arms of Jesus Christ."

I'm glad you used the map, it's a very powerful tool. My heart breaks for the children and the mothers that this figure represents. Thanks for putting it out there.

Yes, the map is a great visual. So tragic......*heavy sigh*

Hello Mrs. Wilt-

I love your blog and check it daily, I have commented several times before and have appreciated the fact that you post comments even when they aren't in agreement with yours.

Biblical Womanhood also has a similar post today about Abortion. I responded to that post and wanted to also respond to yours.

I believe that the map is a very visually effective tool. However, I think we could use this situation in a more encouraging way and reach out to those who are suffering from guilt over choosing to have an abortion. We need to let them know that no matter what they've done, Jesus loves them and wants to be Lord of their life. We as Christians need to be careful about judging others while we stand up for our beliefs, in the process we can make others feel that they aren't "good enough" to be a Christian and know Jesus. We represent Jesus, let us also represent love and compassion.

Thank you, and I appreciate your blog, and love reading it!

God Bless!

Lacey,
I absolutely, totally, agree with your viewpoint; however, I think the map is not intended to induce guilt on the part of those who have had an abortion in the past. Rather, I think it is a visual stimulus to ambivalent Christians to realize the magnitude of what has taken place since 1973.

I personally feel that more can be done to change this situation by quietly, humbly winning this nation to Christ than by picketing and shouting at abortion clinics. When I see the map, I do not feel anger at the choices others have made. Rather, I feel sadness and regret that our nation chooses this as an acceptable alternative to adoption, when there are so many loving families who would willingly give these children a home.

"But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." -Mark 10:14

Hi Again-

I totally agree with you, we need to be ever mindful of the choices the nation has allowed and the consequences of those sin.

Let us also be ever mindful of those lost, and how we can show them Jesus. Let us never do anything or say anything that would put a barrier between someone and Jesus.

While we call out sin, let us not call out the person. Jesus said those without sin could cast the 1st stone.

Thanks! Many Blessings for you and your family! I love your blog, and have learned so much. I also am a teacher, turned stay at home mommy/teacher. I am also an only child. We have a lot in common in our tastes as well :)

If you are ever in SC let me know, you are welcome to visit any time :)

I feel so saddened by this picture. Thankyou for posting it. And no, I don't feel judgement or condemnation for the women who chose the abortions represented by this map but again, sadness. Sadness for the conditions that they were in to bring them to such a decision.Sadness, that they may not know God's forgiveness and His great love for them. Sadness, for the guilt that many will carry the rest of their lives without this knowledge. I pray that these women who haven't yet, will come to know the love and forgiveness that only comes through Jesus Christ. I also pray for an end to this practice of abortion and the destruction that brings. Thanks again for posting this.

On a side note, in December I purchase a candlewicking doorknob satchet from you. Only, I haven't paid yet because I don't know the total for shipping. I really would like to pay quickly if you send me the information.

This post just made my heart ache with how much I love my mother. Because of health reasons, her doctors told her that she must abort her baby. She just could not do it. She trusted in God and gave me life at the risk of her own.
