Welcome

  • Welcome to The Sparrow's Nest! My name is Mrs. Wilt. I am a Christian, saved by grace. Aside from being a wife and mommy, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee and hot tea, listening to classical music, gardening, sewing, and working on our 1933 home. So, pour yourself a cuppa and let's chat!

NOTE: This site's comments are moderated by a busy mommy, so if yours doesn't show up right away, have no fear! As soon as Johnathan takes his nap and Christopher settles down with a book I'll get them online- I promise! :o)

  • How many sparrows are visiting right now?

Bunny Salads

Dsc05023

We had the pleasure of lunch company (my friend Angela, her 2 boys, and new baby girl) yesterday, so I whipped up a few of these little cuties (recipe found in my 1950s Betty Crocker children's cookbook) as well as some weiner pigs-in-a-blanket. Aren't these just the sweetest little bunnies? :o)

Here are the foods you need to make a "bunny":

  • pear half (body)
  • cottage cheese (tail)
  • sliced almonds (ears)
  • raisins (eyes)
  • cinnamon candy (nose)

I laid each one on a Romaine lettuce leaf for ease in transferring to plates. They were easy to make and oh, so cute. Perfect for springtime! :o)

Ack! There are mice on your lettuce! LOL, that was my first thought when I first opened your page ;-)
Your bunnies are adorable! I'm sure the kids loved them.

Mrs. Wilt here: LOL They do look kind of mice-y, don't they? ;o) Perhaps a licorice tail and they could be mice salads instead! ;o)

So cute !
But hm... how's the taste of pears with salad and cinnamon ? :o \

Mrs. Wilt here: The children picked the cinnamon hots right off and ate them right away. The taste was hardly noticeable. The lettuce was left on the plate- next time I'm tempted to collect it and put it beyond our fence for our little bunnies that tend to visit there. :o)

Oh, how sweet. My daughter wants me to make them for her tea party now. Thanks.
Jenn

Mrs. Wilt here: If she doesn't like the taste of cottage cheese, a dollop of whipped cream would be a nice substitute there. :o)

Those are adorable, Mrs. Wilt! I hope that Angela, her entire family and her new little gal are doing well!

Mrs. Wilt here: They are doing very well...and Johnathan has shown himself to be a big fan of their new little one. He suddenly has taken quite an interest in wanting to be a big brother! :o)

How funny!! These definately made me smile and think of yester-years......when Mama's took time to "present" their food!! How cute: love it!!

How cute! My kiddos would love these. I'll have to give them a try!

I have that cookbook! (The apple crisp recipe is still, to date, the best I've ever had -- all my friends love it.) I like to make these for my boys on the first day of spring. So cute.

Mrs. Wilt here: Carol, I know you will agree with me...there is just NO cooking like Betty Crocker 1950s cooking! The presentation is just divine. Luv, luv, luv that cookbook! :o)
